General Information
The Sheriff and his staff are required to follow strict federal guidelines when performing necessary procedures for fingerprinting. During the fingerprint process you will be asked to schedule an appointment. Please note that you will be asked to pay now to reserve your appointment.
Please be respectful by arriving for your appointment at least 10 minutes ahead of time. This allows you the opportunity to park, check in, and complete any other necessary paperwork. The process time takes 15 - 20 minutes to complete. If you arrive 10 minutes late for your appointment you will be checked as a no-show and asked to reschedule. If you are unable to keep your appointment please log on using the Order Tracker to reschedule.
If you are obtaining fingerprints that require electronic submissions to the SBI make sure you receive the Electronic Submission form from the requested agency. If you do not have these forms we cannot fingerprint you.
If you are obtaining only a thumbprint Do Not make an appointment, stop by our office to be processed.
If you are obtaining fingerprints that requires no fee, make sure you receive an official letter from the requested agency. Do Not make an appointment, stop by our office to be processed.
Appointment Information
Appointments for fingerprints are processed 9:00am-4:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Appointments can be made online or in person at our self-check-in kiosk.
At the time of appointment provide a valid driver's license or DMV ID with your current address.

Fees
The Durham County Sheriff's Office online cost is $15.00 per fingerprint card set (1-2 cards), or one electronic submission, plus $4.93 processing and service fee. If you select electronic submission you will receive 1 electronic submission, each electronic submission will require a separate appointment and payment. This online service is offered as a convenience to the community. The processing and service
fee is not collected by the Sheriff. This fee is paid to the company that provides this processing system to the public.
You do have the option of applying and paying via cash in person at the Sheriff’s Office self-check-in kiosk. You will not be charged the processing and service fee.
Paying in person will be considered a walk-in. Read the instructions on walk-ins under “Appointment Information”.
